Historically, Q4’s holiday season brings retailers an incredible influx of sales as consumers shop for gifts and gatherings in droves. In 2020, because of COVID-19’s impact on consumer shopping behavior, Q4 shopping predictions were a wild card.
In an effort to cater to consumers mindful of their health, retailers worked to minimize store crowds by starting holiday deals earlier than ever, while encouraging omnichannel shopping opportunities and curbside pickup. To understand consumer loyalty during the tumultuous quarter, InMarket analyzed US consumers’ foot traffic patterns and visitation history from October to December 2020.
InMarket’s Q4 2020 Retail Loyalty report includes:
- The retailers with the strongest consumer loyalty during the quarter. Walmart, Target, Lowe’s, and Dollar General were among the retailers with the strongest consumer loyalty during the fourth quarter.
- Apparel retailers, including Kate Spade and Ralph Lauren, comprised the list of retailers with below-average consumer loyalty. Some retailers anticipated weak sales, including Calvin Klein and Van Heusen’s parent company, PVH, forecasting a 20% decline in Q4 YoY sales.
