Employee Spotlight —Michelle Lin, HR Generalist

Our latest "Employee Spotlight" features a Q&A with Michelle Lin, HR Generalist at InMarket.

As an HR Generalist here at InMarket, Michelle Lin is responsible for key HR functions across the Technology, Product and Marketing & Strategy departments. Michelle joined the team in December 2020 and is currently based in Los Angeles, California.

What’s your favorite part of being on the InMarket team?

Michelle Lin: My favorite part of being on the InMarket team, specifically in HR, is getting to meet every new hire on their first day. It helps me feel connected to each person who joins the company, and I love getting to be a part of their onboarding experience. This does, however, create confusion when I finally meet someone in person for the first time and feel like I already know them.

What advice would you give to someone who's just starting out at InMarket?

ML: Don’t be afraid to ask questions! You’ll find that everyone who works here is very generous with their time and would be more than happy to help you out. Also, put yourself out there! Schedule one-on-ones with people who you want to learn more about, attend Celebrators events (and/or join the Celebrators Committee) and reach out to folks who live in your metro area.

How do you regularly keep up with industry trends?

ML: I watch A LOT of webinars and follow thought leaders on LinkedIn. Regulations and trends are constantly changing in the HR world, so it’s really important to keep up.

What were you doing prior to joining InMarket?

ML: Prior to InMarket, I worked in HR and Recruiting at a small fintech company based in SoCal. The company used AI and machine learning to make credit more fair and accessible to underrepresented populations. It was a great company full of incredibly smart people, and I’m happy to say that I’ve had the same experience here at InMarket working alongside all of our talented Peeps.

What’s something surprising that not many people know about you?

ML: I was a competitive cheerleader and dancer in high school and college, which taught me valuable lessons about discipline, hard work and the importance of being a dependable teammate. I also used enough hairspray and bobby pins to last a lifetime (if you know, you know).

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

ML: Some of my hobbies include bouldering, Pilates/Lagree, playing video games, going to concerts, doing jigsaw puzzles, traveling, and spoiling my dog Remy. While I may sound like a very active person, I am also a huge homebody and value my quality time on the couch, in my sweatpants, with some form of junk food in my hands.

What’s your favorite app on your phone?

ML: My favorite app on my phone is—(don’t laugh at me)—Pokemon Go. I’ve been playing ever since it came out in 2016. It’s a fun way to connect the digital world with the physical world and it encourages me to spend more time outside.
